Much Ado about life with Jack & Abby.

Random Jack updates

Current obsessions:

Matchbox cars – pretty much must have one in hand at all times (including sleep). The last cheerios box came with a Nascar looking race car in it which is a particular favorite, along with the first one to show up in the collection which he must have swiped from one of his playmates. Apologies to the toddler who is short one mini metallic blue matchbox. You’re welcome, to the parents who are actively seeking to decrease the toy collection.

Tractors – or construction site vehicles, basically anything that moves dirt. We’ve had a lot of activity in this department at the house with the construction of the new office underway (promise to post pictures later). There’s also been a general buzz of activity on the street between the neighbors having to dig up and repair their sewage lines (I just know we’re going to be next!) and early landscaping. Jack will literally sit and watch for HOURS. I kid you not. When the bobcat was living in our backyard it was the first and last thing he had to see and talk about at the end and beginning of the day.

Mud – The torrential downpours following the “big dig” in our backyard produced a lot of very fine mud to stomp around in while wearing his frog boots. Don’t get me started on the wriggly creatures that have been unearthed and observed. It would make a biologist proud. I never claimed to be into biology.

Talking:

Jack’s certainly putting the world together along with his language. My top two favorites right now include when he announced that the sun was too “loud” (meaning bright), and when he responded to his somewhat juicy sounding burp with “mmmmmmm, meal meal.” (Meal meal is what he calls oatmeal. So gross. I laughed my head off.)

Working on some beginning sounds. He still defaults to the “f” sound with a lot of words, including “truck”. And given his current obsession, you can imagine that there is a lot of interesting sounding conversation to an outsider.

Happy Leap Day

Three weeks to go! If you’d asked me last week if I thought I was going to make it to the 21st, I would have given you a resounding no. This time last week I was convinced Abby girl was going to make an early appearance. She still may…perhaps she’ll make an exciting appearance before midnight tonight and join the ranks of other Leap Day babies!…but I’m doubting it. She suddenly seems to have settled in, and while I feel much more tired and uncomfortable than remember feeling with Jack at this point, I’m chalking that up to the fact that I have been running around like a maniac at work (we’re in our final week of production) and you can’t slow down with the toddler factor. Such is the state of affairs. Jack seems to be getting excited about the fact that he will soon have a “new baby sister” living here. Because if your parents say it with enough enthusiasm and then illicit a response such as “hooray!” from their trained monkey, I mean first child, well it must be true. Right?

a key distinction

Have had lots of blogging thoughts of late that disappeared into the abyss once I was hit by a nasty cold. I’ll just leave you with this. When buying a second car, consider NOT purchasing from the same manufacturer. Or,  if you insist on brand loyalty, at least be a little bit brighter than me. It appears the the CRV key does not start the Civic, no matter how hard I try.

grrrrrrrrrrrowling

In an attempt to defend his territory (aka his toys) Jack has taken to growling like a puppy. I first noticed it with Max, the other child in our nanny share, but have since witnessed it on a couple of occasions since…including at the local children’s museum when Jack thought another child was after “his” train. We got a few strange looks from the other mom’s, I can assure you.

I’m not exactly sure how to deal with this. I guess it’s better than him striking out, but it is a bit disconcerting none the less. I guess we’ll just see how things progress and continue to emphasize “using our words.” Perhaps “grrrrr” is just part of his vocabulary!
